      The ballot language also states that paper and cardboard can be burned with certain restrictions.  However, there are no penalties in the ordinance that will be in effect if Proposition 1 passes, so effectively, there are no restrictions. 	In addition, Proposition 1 removes the authority of the mayor or the fire chief to ban open burning in times of emergency.  Again, this language is not on the ballot, but it is contained in the ordinance that will be in effect if Proposition 1 passes.
	Proposition 1 was drafted with the goal of allowing “unlimited” open burning, and if voters approve it, much more burning is likely.  
	Be sure to go vote against this measure.  If concerned and sensible people stay home, Proposition 1 might pass! Your vote matters.

Chapter members living in the city limits of Jefferson City will vote on Proposition 1 on November 6. This is the only issue on the ballot.  The purpose of Proposition 1 is to allow unlimited open burning inside Jefferson City throughout the year.
