If the weather permits, the morning of Saturday December 1,  is slated for efforts to  improve bird and wildlife habitat along the hiking/biking/unpaved nature trail at West Edgewood in Jefferson City.

Volunteers are needed for planting wildflower seeds in an open area at the top of hill along the trail. The chapter planted wildflower seeds on this area a few years ago, and we will be doing this again on another area that is about an acre or a little larger. However, this area requires some uphill hiking to get to it, so volunteers should wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

Volunteers are also needed to continue clearing the glade area on the side of the hill. Some chain saw clearing is needed, and help is also needed to stack the cut cedars into brush piles.  Please let Carl

Wakefield know if you can bring a chainsaw and work for a couple hours.  His phone number is 584-6720.  If you intend to stack brush piles for a couple hours, wear long sleeves and bring water.

Remember that firearms deer season will be in progress in Missouri from November 10 - 20.  A second firearms season will also occur from December 8 - 16 in 73 counties including Cole and Boone Counties.

Be sure to wear hunter orange if you are birding at any areas owned by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC).

Or better, go to a State Park. State Parks generally do not allow hunting unless there are too many deer and the hunting in State Parks is usually only for a couple days. Be sure to check with MDC or Missouri Department of Natural Resources, if you have questions.
