Text Box: Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is the oldest and largest citizen science event in the world. For over a hundred years, people have gathered together during the winter holiday season to count birds, and you may be part of it.
River Bluffs Audubon Society (RBAS) scheduled its CBC for Saturday, December 15. People interested in being part of the 108th count may gather at 6 a.m. for breakfast at HyVee, 3870 Highway D. Counters will leave at 7 and re-gather in the evening at the Brueggeman’s for pot luck dinner and to tally results.
While there is a specific methodology to the CBC and you need to count birds within an existing Christmas Bird Count circle, everyone can participate. If you are a beginning birder, you will be able to join a group that includes at least one experienced birdwatcher. If your home is within the boundaries of a Christmas Bird Count circle, then you can stay home and report the birds that visit your feeder.
If you have never been on a CBC before and you want to participate in the December 14th count this year, including feeder counting, contact Julie Lundsted prior to the count at 635-2976 or by e-mail at jlundte@hotmail.com . For more information about the dinner and tallying call Barb Brueggeman at 498-3479 or e-

Birds-I-View stocks a wide choice of bird seed varieties, suet products and wild bird and deer blocks, as well as mealworms. They also offer holiday gift items.

RBAS members will be at the store that Saturday to assist participants with their orders as well as provide information about Audubon programs and memberships.

River Bluffs Audubon Society (RBAS) is holding their annual Bird Seed Sale on Saturday, November 3 at Birds-I-View, 744 W. Stadium Blvd.

In addition to picking up previously ordered bird seed, people may take advantage of owners Regina and Steve Garr’s offer to donate ten percent of all sales on any item in their store to RBAS.
