RBAS Tree Planting

April 2002 - Volunteers from the River Bluffs Chapter responded to a request from the Department of Conservation to help plant 4,500 tree saplings for a new Blue Heron rookery below Bagnall Dam.

The project came about when Ameren UE gave permission for the Department of Conservation to plant trees on a 10-acre strip at the edge of a field just below the dam. The strip was 150'-200' wide and about three quarters of a mile long.

Special thanks goes out to those dedicated volunteers who put in several, hard working hours planting sycamores, oaks, pecans, coffeebeans, and other tree species. The trees will not only provide habitat for Blue Herons but also Bald Eagles, many songbirds and other wildlife.
